Astaxanthin contributes to maintaining redox balance in various areas of the body. It exerts a powerful action as a scavenger of peroxyl radicals and is therefore able to interrupt those reactions that lead to damage to cellular structures such as the plasma membrane.
Astaxanthin is also a very powerful epigenetic modulator, in fact it is able to promote the expression of genes that encode the production of endogenous antioxidants.
